Design

The HP DeskJet Plus 4120 is not very revolutionary in terms of design. It looks like a sack that encloses with a drawstring. It has a small screen on the right front that lets you check the ink level at a glance as well as the current print status.

The paper is inserted at the top of the back and the hopper can hold up to 60 A4 sheets, while the scanner / copy tray inside the tray can hold up to 35 A4 sheets simultaneously. The outer tray folds down with a little extra arm rotated to the right.

Setting up the HP DeskJet Plus 4120 is easy. Download and run the HP Smart software from the HP site, connect the printer to your laptop / desktop device via USB, and follow the on-screen notifications. Once you have connected the cartridges and closed the tray, a simple tap on the Wi-Fi icon will print the rest of the instructions you need to set up wireless printing.

How fast is the HP DeskJet Plus 4120?

The HP DeskJet Plus 4120 prints text quickly, producing just pages of text in less than six seconds and larger 20-page documents in less than three minutes.

Generating text documents with pie charts and bar charts and presentations with large color graphics takes a little longer, and single pages take about 13 seconds and a half minutes, respectively. Larger presentations may take about 4-6 minutes.

Printing is not so fast – When printing on plain or glossy 10 x 50 mm A4 sheets, expect printing to take about two minutes, while printing on glossy A4 takes more than seven minutes. .

The HP DeskJet Plus 4120 takes about 25 seconds to scan a document or color image. Copying and printing a text page in A4 takes about half a minute, while copying and printing color images takes about 50 seconds.

This may take some time, so give yourself a total of about 15 to 20 minutes to get everything done. Once the setup is complete, and you have connected the printer to your Wi-Fi network, sending print jobs via Wi-Fi to the printer is a piece of cake.

Windows users may need to download and install drivers to send printing instructions to the HP DeskJetPlus 4120, while macOS users do not need to, as this printer is compatible with Apple AirPrint, so you can list the printer. Add yourself. Devices that do normally. After installing HP Smart for iOS and Android, you can also print from your phones, although AirPrint still means that the 4120 should be displayed without installing anything on your iPhone or iPad.

Mobile apps are a lot of fun because you can print everything stored on your device – from pets and holiday panoramas to selfies and memes – and images can be cropped with filters before you press the big button. Gave and improved. “Print” symbol.

Sending print jobs over Wi-Fi is largely hassle-free, and if you want to put the DeskJetPlus 4120 in a corner where the Wi-Fi signal is not the best, it might be time to invest in a new Wi-Fi router. Or a Wi-Fi mesh system.

Both apps let you print files stored on cloud services, though iOS now supports a wider range of emails – Google Drive, Google Photos, Evernote, Dropbox, Facebook, Box, plus iCloud. Against Google Drive, Google Photos, Dropbox and Facebook support in Android app.

While these programs allow you to check the amount of ink left in the tank, they are limited in terms of printer detection – if you start producing erratic images, you can not clean the printer nozzle or reset the printhead. For all of these, you need to use desktop applications.

Finally, it should be noted that the HP DeskJet Plus 4120 supports Mopria, a multi-platform standard that means Android users can quickly and easily share documents and images with a simple tap on ‘Share’. Send the printer (without installing the HP program). Icon in most applications, such as your phone’s native gallery, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Google Docs, and more.

Performance

DeskJet Plus 4120 is very interesting. The official spec sheet promises 8.5 pages per minute when printing plain text, and in my experiments, it actually did a little better.

However, it is a bit slower to print anything in color. A 20-page document with text and color graphics took 3 minutes and 58 seconds, which is about 5 pages per minute.

Photos printed on plain A4 take an average of 53 seconds, while printing on glossy photo paper takes 10 x 15 cm longer, about 1 minute and 10 seconds.

The quality of the text was acceptable, but not quite good in normal quality. Serifs occasionally appeared indistinct, and occasionally bleeding in letters such as “k”, “x” and “w”. Quality is only acceptable at Best, which of course uses more ink, which means you have to wait a little longer for the pages to appear.

Fortunately, the graphics and photos are both great, with large colored blocks appearing in the bar charts, logos and charts. The skin color on the photos, even on plain paper, looks similar to the skin color, and the photos printed on the glosses look amazing.

The only problem I had with glossy prints was that the alignment of the images in the center of the 10 x 15 cm paper did not always work when selecting “screen fit” in mobile applications. You can compensate for this manually, but a little trial and error is needed.

Current costs

The HP DeskJetPlus 4120 is about as expensive as most printers in this price range, which is arguably very expensive. The average cost per page is about 9-10p. However, if you want to save some money, subscribing to HP Instant Ink can make things a lot cheaper.

Two cartridges are required for black and colored inks (cyan, magenta, yellow), respectively.

While the two-cartridge approach means that replacing the blanks is not so expensive that it would be a bit pointless if the printer used more, meaning that you will probably consume all the yellow ink as long as there is some yellow ink. Turquoise and magenta remain in the tank. Unless you’re happy to continue printing with the missing yellow color, you will throw away that unused ink.

Regardless, the HP DeskJetPlus 4120 consumes both standard-sized HP 305 black and tri-color cartridges and larger HP 305XL cartridges.

The HP 305 cartridges give you an average of enough ink for 120 sheets (black) and 100 sheets (color), which is roughly equivalent to 9p and 10p per page.

Larger HP 305XL cartridges cost 99 19.99 and 99 17.99. Although this amount is a bit higher, HP has promised enough ink for approximately 240 prints (black) and 200 (color) prints. All this creates less cost per 8p and 9p per page.

Conclusion

The HP DeskJet Plus 4120 is a valuable versatile device, but it is expensive to run without Instant Ink subtitles. Some drawbacks, such as mediocre text quality and poor image quality, will keep the century from selling, but if you can live with them, it’s a good buy.

Signing up for an HP Instant Ink subscription is easy enough – you just need to have your email address and bank details.

You’ll also be taken to the registry during the startup process, and whenever you check the ink level through the HP Smart app, so finding links to HP Instant Ink pages is not exactly difficult.

Instant Ink service is quite smart, because your printer automatically detects when the ink level drops and sends you a set of new cartridges (in theory) before it runs out. If you want to save some money, these revolving contracts are worth exploring. Standard prices are as follows:

Given that the cheapest cartridges available for the HP DeskJet Plus 4120, which give you about 100 pages of ink, cost 99 10.99 each, 3. 3.49 a month is a good idea. Or if you look at it differently, it gives you 10 pounds or a new cartridge or enough ink for 300 pages.
