Dell XPS 15 (7590) review

Dell has been neutralizing the XPS 15 with the same design for several years, and this story will not change much for 2019. The Dell XPS 15 (7590) comes with some minor improvements, including fixing the placement of the webcam and delivering the latest version from Intel and NVIDIA for a faster and more efficient experience.

There is also a new 4K OLED non-touch screen option with the power of this laptop.

The new Dell XPS 15 7590 makes a case for itself with an optional OLED panel, Intel’s latest 9-generation 6 and 8-core processors, Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU, and finally a higher-screen webcam.

Design and display

You’ll have about the same design as the last one or two models: an aluminum lid and stand with a black carbon fiber palm enclosing the keyboard.

This design has worked well for a while, but now it looks a bit outdated, especially with the Dell XPS 13 and XPS 13 2-in-1 looking good for 2019.

To be fair to the XPS 15, this year Dell has a little bit to adjust his keyboard, just to correct the stylus on the keys, so they don’t look robotic and are not very close to the Helvetica laptop.

Also, not all aspects without change are bad. The 1.3 mm travel remains constant and the feedback force is as solid as ever after our brief test. The glass-covered trackpad retains the same smooth design as always.

Dell has equipped its flagship laptop with an OLED display.

Obviously, Dell’s real focus here was to provide its premium “prosumer” laptop with an OLED display, which was a bold endeavor.

The impressive 100000: 1 aspect ratio is immediately noticeable when viewed on the screen, with blacks fading into the thin edges of the laptop.

Dell informs us that this display is intended to support content creators with a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut. It is not as bright as other screens with a maximum of 400 nits, and by relying on this increased contrast ratio, it achieves some of the dimmings due to dimming.

Also, this laptop with a standard display and a 57-watt hour battery (Whr) holds the same weight of only 4 pounds (1.8 kg) and now with an OLED screen and a 97-watt battery weighs 4.5 pounds (2 kg). Similarly, the laptop remains as thin as ever – only 0.66 inches (17 mm) from the screen. Finally, the ports are the same, with two USB 3.1 ports, one USB-C port with Thunderbolt 3.

Price and availability

Priced at $ 1,168 (approximately 9 930, A $ 1660) for the base configuration, the Dell XPS 15 (2019) offers a great price. It has a quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (CPU), 9GB of 2,666MHz (RAM), and a 256GB PCIe 256GB solid-state drive behind a 15.6-inch FHD display (1920 1, 1080).

This particular configuration is not available in the UK or Australia. Startup configuration in the UK instead of the 9th generation i7, with the same memory, storage and display. Meanwhile, the basic configuration in Australia has the same processor, memory and display, but it has double the storage space.

Of course, the important point of this configuration display is completely packaged. Dell XPS 15 2019 Max 8-core Intel Core i9 processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics (4GB GDDR5), 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD, all behind a 4K UHD OLED multi-touch screen (3,840 x 2,160 ) has it . You will pay $ 3,118 (99 2,899, about A $ 4,440) for this instant model.

This particular configuration is not available in Australia, where the model has at most the same interior, but its storage space is limited to 1 terabyte. It costs you A $ 5,199.

You’ll likely have access to the same Nvidia enhanced graphics somewhere within the configuration as before. We know that the minimum price to get that stunning OLED display will be A $ 2,018 / 68 1868 / A $ 3499.

Performance

There is only so much to say about the performance of the new XPS as long as we do the unit review. The combination of the eight-core Core i9 power and GTX 1650 graphics will probably make this laptop an animal when working with high-resolution images and providing high-definition video content as well.

Likewise, a gaming laptop should be able to do a Fortnite session for a professional who wants to squeeze one out at lunch or after work – or any computer game, for that matter, if you are a college student. That you still want to be taken seriously in class. The amount of RAM in this laptop easily requires multitasking that deserves hardware.

Dell has a lot of promise in terms of battery life, apparently, in an FHD model, it takes up to 20 hours and 30 minutes of total revenue, more than 13 hours in the 4K model or more than seven hours in the OLED display. These numbers seem a little too good to be true in our opinion, but still, only a comprehensive review tells us how accurate these numbers actually are.

Audio

In the next iteration of the 15-inch XPS, I want the speakers at the top. The heart should place them in the hinge or in the lower corners. When standing, the XPS 15 base speakers are tall and tall, which can fill my small living room with clear, yet shallow sound, depending on the song.

For example, the string orchestra that accompanied Sam Cook on “A Change Is Gonna Come” was so sweet and slippery that his rough tandoor was terrifying but promising. However, the bass was missing from Lizo in “Truth Hurts,” although the rap and vocals of the artist and piano were good and clear.

To help increase sound quality, Dell pre-installed Waves MaxxAudioPro software. It has 24 presets including Hip-Hop (Soft), R&B, Movies, Oldies, Loudness, and Classical.

Dell XPS 15 keyboard and touchpad

It may be the 79 grams of drive that speaks for itself here, but typing on an XPS 15 island-style keyboard is a great comfort experience.

The keys are large and have a generous distance. And the backlight made me burn the midnight oil without much error.

Touchscreen 4.1 3. 3.1-inch Precision is spacious, fast, and responsive. Windows 10 gestures, such as a three-finger tap to summon the Action Center or a three-finger swipe to access recent applications, were almost instantaneous.
