Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Notebook Review

Just because you’re getting something affordable, that doesn’t mean you should have to make a lot of trade-offs. With its 8th-Gen Intel Core i5 processor, the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 fine.

The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 is an affordable 15-inch laptop with strong 8th Gen core performance, but the awful display and short battery life prevent it.

Design

The medium-sized 15.6-inch Dell notebook is a soft, dirty block. For a long time, Inspiron has not had any beautiful music, and Inspiron 15 5000 follows this trend. This is a plastic and silver board that bears the heart logo in a glossy mirror.

Raising the door, the 15.6-inch 1080p display is surrounded by an almost thick bezel and a plastic deck with a sleek metal look.

There is a fingerprint reader on the power button and the keyboard is a black set of island-style keys.

Inspiron 15 5000 15*10*10.2*0. 0.9 inches narrower than the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-576G-5762, which has the same weight, width, and height, but is 1.2 inches thick.

Display

The Inspiron 15 5000’s display is really awful. Sure, it has a 15.6-inch display with a 1080p resolution, but it’s also dim. When I watched the trailer for Avengers: Infinity War, Gamora’s green skin was white, it was hard to tell the spider web patterns in Spider-Man costume, and there was no red color in the Star-Lord coat.

Instead, it looked brown. The blue sky above Wakanda looked gray, and Thanos had blue on his purple flesh.

The screen of this laptop covers only 67% of the sRGB color spectrum, which is below the average of the laptop (89%) and the results of Aspire (74%).

The Dell panel measures an average of 175 nits, which is less light than the Aspire (200 nits) and medium (230 nits).

This Inspiron is also very dim compared to the older Inspiron 15 5000 with the touch screen.

Keyboard and touch screen

The keyboard in the Inspiron is 1.4 mm travel and requires 73 grams of force to press, but the keys feel cheap and loose, making them look shallower than they really are. This keyboard is not very comfortable.

The 4.1-inch 3.1-inch touchscreen is nice and spacious, though the plastic is a bit penetrating.

Performance

While Inspiron configuration has an Intel Core i5-8250U and 8GB of RAM ready for multitasking, the 1TB HDD is 5400 rpm slower than the SSDs you get on most PCs. (You can configure the extra charge to Inspiron with an SSD).

In the Geekbench 4 overall performance test, the Inspiron scored 11,791, beating both the Aspire (9278, also with the Core i5-8250U) and the laptop average (8,231).

The Inspiron took 39 seconds to duplicate 4.97 GB of the file (what you would get on a full DVD), which is 130.5 Mbps. This speed is slower than the average (152.5 MB / s) and Aspire (149.7 MB / s).

It took Inspiron 1 minute and 11 seconds to complete the Excel spreadsheet macro, which packs 65,000 names and addresses.

This is faster than both the Aspire (1:30) and the average (1:49). Inspiron also ran faster in our HandBrake video editing test, encoding a 4K movie to 1080p in 17 minutes and 11 seconds, beating Aspire (25:15) and average (21:39).

But on the 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited graphic scale, Inspiron scored 69943, which was lower than both the 122144 Aspire and the average (72506). While the Inspiron uses Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics, the $ 50 more Aspire features a dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX150 with 2GB of VRAM. This is nothing to play with, but it does enhance Photoshop.

Battery life of Dell Inspiron 15 5000

The Inspiron’s short battery life basically drives you to your desktop. The system works for the Laptop Mag Battery Test 2.0 for 5 hours and 8 minutes, continuously browsing the web, playing videos, and streaming via graphical standards over Wi-Fi. The average mainstream laptop is 8 hours and 23 minutes, and the Aspire worked even longer for 9:26.

Heat

The Inspiron stays cool under pressure and below the 95 ° F comfort threshold. After the Inspiron played 15 minutes of HD video on YouTube, our heat gun was measured at 81 degrees Fahrenheit on the touch screen, 94 degrees between the G and H keys, and 90.5 degrees at the bottom of the laptop.

Warranty and software Dell Inspiron 15 5000

Dell software includes Mobile Connect, which allows you to send and receive text messages via your iPhone or Android phone.

In the latter case, you can control the entire phone from your laptop. You also get Dell Power Manager to help you manage battery drain speed and Support Assist to help with any technical issues.

Of course, you also have a bunch of junk embedded in every version of Windows 10, such as Candy Crush Soda Saga, Bubble Witch 3 Saga, March of Empires: War of Lords, and Netflix, and more.
