Asus VivoBook L203MA review & Specs

The Asus VivoBook L203MA is a Windows laptop for travelers who want a compact and lightweight 11.6-inch laptop.

This laptop is the size of a small tablet but still packed in a full-size keyboard with good travel. Asus VivoBook L203MA has a great HD display and enough ports to connect all your peripherals.

Sometimes all you need is a decent, affordable laptop with the right screen size for schoolwork, editing mainstream media, or simple web browsing.

The ASUS VivoBook L203MA scans all the boxes, and this is one of the most cost-effective Windows 10 systems we’ve seen with the USB-C port, so if you need the extra connectivity option on a laptop instead of a desktop, a good option.

Asus VivoBook L203MA Design

In terms of styling, Asus always does it right, even on a budget. When the VivoBook L203MA-DS04 is closed, the honeycomb door is engraved with a silver “Asus” logo in the middle, extending the same thread to the keyboard deck and bottom cover.

The plastic case looks great, much better than you might expect from a cheap 11-inch laptop.

Either way, the system is quite compact for a college laptop, measuring 0.7 by 11.3 by 7.6 inches (HWD) and weighing 3.2 pounds.

The 11-inch non-touch LCD screen has a resolution of 1366 x 768 (HD), which is common among low-cost laptops. Sure, the new Lenovo 130S has this feature, but other Windows-based competitors like the Acer Aspire 5 (A515-43-R19L) and Chromebooks like the Asus Chromebook C425 all have much higher resolution screens (1920 x 1080).

So if you plan to edit your website layout, work on large spreadsheets, or watch HD movies in built-in resolution, the VivoBook L203MA isn’t great – you better with an Acer Aspire 5 or Asus Chromebook C425.

Nevertheless, the screen is clear and provides good detail when viewed at its sweet spot, but if you look at it from too far forward or backward, the colors are slightly washed out.

Display

Asus VivoBook L203MA is equipped with an 11.6-inch non-touch HD screen. This display has a 16: 9 aspect ratio, a screen resolution of 768 13 1366, a 45% NTSC LED-backlit display.

Although the screen is only 11.6 inches, it can produce very clear and bright colors with HD resolution.

Connection

There is a very good selection of input/output ports. The right panel has a power connector, an HDMI port, a headset jack, a USB 3.0 port, an SD card reader, and a USB-C port. On the left panel, there is a USB 3.0 port and a headphone jack.

If you want to use a wired USB 2.0 mouse, this port is great.

However, we would still welcome several ports instead of one USB 3.0 port, but it is still a great choice for a low-cost PC. 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are available for wireless communication, which is much better than some low-end single-band notebooks.

Keyboard and touchpad

The ASUS VivoBook L203MA has a sleek, backlit keyboard that is essentially a luxury never seen before.

However, in the latest Acer Aspire 5 laptops, we see backlit keyboards as well as in some Chromebooks. It is easy to use but does not have enough space for a numeric keypad. The touch screen is a long, spacious, and fully responsive piece.

This 6 GB memory along with 64 GB eMMC flash memory is connected to the motherboard.

There’s not much storage space, but it’s more than you get from competing Chromebooks with 32GB of internal storage, and it’s faster than traditional hard drives.

Performance

VivoBook L203MA-DS04 with Intel Celeron N4000 processor (with Intel HD graphics card) performs well in everyday work. Sure, the AMD Ryzen 3 3200U CPU in the Acer Aspire 5 speeds up the system, but the Asus VivoBook is certainly able to get things done on time.

As with all low-end laptops, 3D gaming scores are often low and the frame rate is in single digits. Just stick to a regular website, and everything will be fine.

Battery life is impressive, as the 2-cell battery lasts a little over 5 hours and 21 minutes, which is enough for most of a school day.

In any case, the average is less than 7 hours and 19 minutes. Which Acer Aspire 5 (7:28) and Lenovo Chromebook C425 (11:34) easily access

Expert Review

Experts think that the ASUS VivoBook L203 MA has all the features that should be present in a laptop at such an affordable price. A good array of ports with a good build quality and a satisfactory display may be the reasons one wants to look.

However, battery backup time and webcam quality are not good enough to adjust with. Better options are the Acer Aspire 5, and for those interested in Chrome OS, the Asus Chromebook C425 is recommended.
