Asus ROG RTX 3070 OC Review

The Asus ROG RTX 3070 OC is the graphics card that offers the company’s top 3070 cooling system.

Cooling design

Asus attaches great importance to the fact that the cooler is powerful and efficient, as well as quiet, and offers a very successful performance in the automatic control of the fans. The value of Axial-Tech fans used in the new cooling system is very good. At 3300 RPM, there is 34.4 dB of sound in the center, 50.09 in the center, 49.33 CFM airflow in the center, 3.01 mmH2O in the center, 2.95 mmH2O air pressure on both sides. The middle fan rotates in the opposite direction. 13-blade side fans, 11-blade middle.

The MaxContact contact area, located below the thick heatsink and in direct contact with the processor, is well polished for high conductivity. The card itself is manufactured in a robotics factory and Asus calls it Auto-Extreme. In other words, the standards are very high and the breakdown and error rate of the cards is very low. These details make a big difference for those who are looking for a quality and durable graphics card.

Aesthetically, in keeping with the spirit of the cast, there’s also a metallic RGB address on the side. It is customizable on ASUS ROG Armory. With the update, automatic color change according to the temperature of the card is also possible.

The back cover has a vent at the end to let hot air out of the card and through the case. This is a feature we have seen in the RTX 3000 series.

Amp graphics processor

NVIDIA graphics core with Ampere architecture in 3000 series graphics cards provides the opportunity to benefit from advanced high-performance beam tracking and machine learning algorithms with the second generation RT Core and third-generation Tensor Core. The RTX 3070, which has up-to-date and stable drivers, also includes NVENC, which we have enjoyed recording and playing video for years. In addition to decrypting H.264 and H.265, its encryption can also decrypt the new AV1 encryption. This codec, which supports 10-bit color and takes up half the space compared to H.264, will be more in the future.

There are 3 DisplayPort 1.4a ports and 2 HDMI 2.1 ports. Supports HDCP 2.3, image output 7680 × 4320. Multi-monitor setup can be easily done on the card, which supports up to 4 screens.

High speed acting

However, the main focus of this card is on 1080p and 1440p games. Because here the new graphics card can offer great performance. The ASG ROG Swift 360 Hz PG259QN is a monitor that offers a refresh rate of 360 Hz, which is naturally the eye of users 3070, 3080, and 3090. However, of course, we are in an era where affordable 1440p / 144Hz models are also on the market. So high-speed acting is the main focus.

With 8GB of GDDR6 memory, the RTX 3070 is just as good as the Big Brothers 3080 and 3090 in 4K, if not great. However, the main focus is on delivering performance close to the performance of the latest RTX 2080Ti series, much more cost-effective. It achieves this in terms of price/performance.

Those with 2080Ti do not need to change, they are even slightly more useful in 4K, and the old flagship can make up to a 20% difference in workload. However, when it comes to assembling new systems or updating old GTX 970 or GTX 1070 cards, our choice is the RTX 3070.

Power consumption

This card with a 2.8 pin power connection is suitable for almost any type of case with 3 fan cooling on it. SLI or NVLink are not supported because 2.9 slots alone take up a lot of space.

A 750-watt power supply is recommended for this GPU. Even with Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 processors, a 650-watt power supply will usually suffice. However, it is recommended to use 750 watts with Core i9 or Ryzen 9 processors and 850 watt PSU with Intel Threadripper or HEDT processors.

MSI RX 570

Although it has a PCIe 4.0 connection, we used it with the PCIe 3.0 motherboard and processor without any problems. If the power supply used is of good quality, it can be easily installed in older systems.

The Asus ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3070 OC Edition is a well-equipped model. Providing dual BIOS is a very important feature in terms of reliability and cooling. In addition, the card cooling is very successful and silent. The quality of parts and materials is also an important factor for those who want a high-durability card.

If you are planning to play games with a monitor with 1080p or 1440p resolution and a very high screen refresh rate, this card is in a very successful position in terms of performance. But if you are interested in 4K games, we recommend watching the RTX 3080 or RTX 3090 series.
